polisMOBILITY: Germany’s Exciting New Mobility Expo

Introducing Europe’s newest urban mobility event: polisMOBILTY. polisMOBILITY is a forward-thinking conference and expo that focuses on the future of mobility and urban living, taking place between May 18 to 21 at the Koelnmesse and the City of Cologne. Strategically located in the heart of Europe’s largest economic area and a densely populated metropolitan region, the City of Cologne is the ideal place to showcase the innovations and solutions that will transform cities and solve the challenges of tomorrow.

The first incarnation of this annual event is a hybrid event that combines expo, conference, and experience, into a holistic urban mobility fair that can be experienced by both trade and private visitors to showcase the latest innovations and warn of the risks of inaction.

polisMobility 2022

Mobility In Focus

The world we live in is constantly evolving, and our cities are evolving alongside it. Cities of all shapes, sizes and proportions will be at the forefront of the battle against climate change, the challenge of overpopulation, and the clear and present danger of pandemics and how they shape the way that we live.

By 2050, the United Nations predicts that almost 70 per cent of the world’s population will live in cities and urbanised areas. Facing immense population increases, cities must rise to the challenge by delivering innovative infrastructure that’s resilient, futureproof, and environmentally positive. While it’s not uncommon to read about the need for sustainability, digitalisation, resilience, and environmental protection for a wide range of a city’s needs, there is one aspect of urban development that needs to be revolutionized to help all sectors, quite literally, move forward: urban mobility.

Moving citizens from A to B in an efficient and sustainable way can have a fantastic positive impact on the way a city grows and adapts. And that’s where polisMOBILITY comes in. This all-new event aims to cover the full spectrum of urban mobility trends, exploring the industry’s latest advances and innovations, and learning how urban mobility is redefining digitalisation and networking, infrastructure and urban development, environmental protection, diversity, and citizen participation. It truly is a cross-industry event.

Who Is polisMOBILITY For?

Due to the broad nature of the term “urban mobility” polisMOBILITY is an event targeted to a wide range of stakeholders. Unlike many Smart City events that are aimed at specific sectors of the industry, polisMOBILITY expects to attract visitors from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, from city council leaders to average citizens. Here’s a brief overview of who you can expect to see at polisMOBILITY 2022:

  • City developers
  • Cities, municipalities, communities, countries
  • Public utilities
  • Public and private transport companies
  • Researchers and developers
  • Automotive, vehicle and supplier industry
  • Technology companies
  • Industrial companies
  • Service providers for digital services, platforms and mobility

polisMOBILITY: The Event in Detail

Expo, conference, experience: these are the three words that are being used to describe the three separate events that encompass polisMOBILITY. The first describes a standard expo and trade format with visitors and exhibitors from all over the world gathering to show off the latest innovations and exchange ideas. However, it’s the conference and experience that really makes polisMOBILITY an exciting event to attend.

polisMOBILITY Conference

The conference segment of the event will focus on 10 key topic clusters within the urban mobility realm, covering topics as diverse as urban infrastructure to battery manufacturing, and everything in between. Here’s a brief overview of the topic clusters to give you a taste of what topics will be discussed by leading industry professionals at the inaugural polisMOBILITY conference.

  • Urban and District Development: Best practice districts, multi- and intermodality, transport infrastructure, transport space, digital mobility in municipalities, mobile stations and mobility hubs, urban planning, tactical urbanism, and participation.
  • Autonomous and Connected: Cyber and data security, AV systems and platforms, connectivity V2X, localisation, system development, sensor technology, interior sensing, and smart city.
  • Mobility Services: Shared mobility, micro-mobility, smart parking, fleet management and operational mobility management, mobility budget, billing and payment, carpooling, and ride-hailing.
  • Drive Technologies: Electric drives, battery development, fuel cells, e-fuels, and power to liquid or gas.
  • Electrification and Sector Interlinking: Energy management, smart grids, hydrogen economy and logistics, charging, alternative and renewable energies, second life applications, and prosumerism.
  • Active Mobility: Bicycle mobility, infrastructure and planning, local mobility.
  • Public Mobility: On-demand ride pooling and ride-hailing, cable cars, maglev trains, tariffs, regional networks, network and service expansion, and regional development.
  • City Logistics: Last-mile concepts, eCommerce, logistics hubs, micro depots, reverse logistics, and automation.
  • Circular Economy: Raw materials management, sustainability, supply chains, life cycle management, and recycling.
  • Charging: Charging stations and charging infrastructure, customer experience, cities and municipalities, and EV charging ecosystems.

polisMOBILITY Exhibition

The experience portion of the event comes in the form of an exciting event that can be experienced at the trade fair and across the city too. The entire City of Cologne will play host to the latest mobility innovations in an exciting and interactive way. Guests can explore the event grounds, take part via a special test track, have hands-on experience in an environmental laboratory, and network with fellow eventgoers at the same time.

Theme Worlds

What’s more, the polisMOBILITY exhibition will also have a number of exciting theme worlds, specialist areas allocated to in-depth explorations of specific mobility-related topics:

  • Mobile en Route: Mobile en Route explores the future of multimodal, digitally networked, sustainable and shared transport, examining how it will be to experience new forms of mobility in the urban spaces of tomorrow.
  • Digitally Networked: With rapid advances in digital technologies, the Digitally Networked theme world explores how new advances in technology will help to shape future infrastructure and build the foundations of future urban mobility.
  • Infrastructure: Traditional physical infrastructure is evolving. The Infrastructure theme world delves into the expanse of limitless possibilities that physical infrastructure can provide in terms of connected mobility, from smart charging to intelligent street lamps, or from traffic guiding systems to smart parking solutions.
  • Green City: Green City explores how the mobility sector can transition from a major pollutant into a green and sustainable model. The Green City theme world looks at alternative drives, electromobility, renewable energies, emissions trackers, and more.
  • Planning & Building: Building and urban planning go hand in hand with urban mobility, and the design of urban spaces needs to be revolutionised to accommodate the new mobility options that modern urban residents demand. This theme world explores how people-oriented architecture and urban development can help bring smart mobility to the next level.
  • Urban Life: The final theme world is Urban Life. It’s an area dedicated to the networking of citizens, initiatives, organisations, and other stakeholder groups. By focusing on collaboration, Urban Life hopes to find new ways for citizens to work together to shape a brighter future for their cities.
